Apple’s new iPhone 3GS model launched in Australia today, with hundreds of people lining up at official Apple and other retail stores to pick up this new Iphone 3G S.

Vodafone and OPTUS are the only carriers to have announced their pricing plans so far, while 3 said it would publish its plans closer to July, when it will begin selling the iphones. Telstra will reveal on its plans tomorrow , while Virgin said it would reveal prices this week. (Read the article)

National Australia Bank to buy Aviva Australia

National Australia Bank has agreed to buy Aviva Australia, Australian  insurance and wealth management business for $825 million. This acquisition is expected to be earnings per share and  return on equity accretive in the first full year following acquisition (excluding estimated integration costs).

NAB won the bidding process for Aviva’s assets, with AMP missing out. Chief  executive Cameron Clyne said NAB is looking to expand its MLC division’s business and that the acquisition would help it in this  regard.

This acquisition also will enhance National Bank offering in key wealth management segments including insurance and investment  platforms, adding scale, efficiency and new capabilities to their  operations. The company said it plans to use the funds to cut down its  debts, which currently stand at about $4.9 billion.

Woolworths Everyday Rewards Australia and Qantas Frequent Flyer

Woolworths and Qantas has announced their loyalty partnership which allows customers to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points as part of their everyday shopping. Woolworth customers who link their Everyday Rewards and Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts will earn one Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar spent above $30 in one transaction, when they present their Everyday Rewards card.

The offer will be available to Woolworths Supermarket and Liquor customers from 22 June and to BIG W customers from 16 July. Offers will also be launched in coming months for customers of BWS, Dick Smith and participating Caltex Woolworths co-branded fuel outlets.

The four cents per litre fuel discount will also continue to apply to purchases over $30 in Woolworths supermarkets and BIG W, continuing to provide further value to shoppers.  Customers who link their Everyday Rewards and Qantas Frequent Flyer membership accounts and choose to pay for their shopping with a credit card that earns Qantas Frequent Flyer points will still earn those points and will also earn one point for every dollar spent above $30 in one transaction, making rewards even easier and faster to attain.
