Scholarships Australia 2009 UNSW PhD Student Scholarship

The UNSW PhD Student Completion Scholarships are designed to enable PhD students in the final stages of their candidature, who have not received any scholarship or other financial support during their candidature, to spend uninterrupted time (up to 6 months) to complete their thesis. Up to 5 scholarships, valued at approx. $10,000 each were made available via a competitive application process for successful completion in Semesters 1 and 2 2009.

To be eligible for this unsw scholarships, applicants must:
  • not have previously held or be currently receiving any other scholarship (eg APA, APAI, EIPRS, Faculty or School scholarships) or any other form of financial support
  • be a currently enrolled PhD student at UNSW
  • enrol on a full-time basis in semester 2, 2009 (latest date for enrolment is 31 August 2009) and consistent with this enrolment status, work full-time on the thesis in semester 2, ie. devote 35-40 hours per week to candidature
  • be in the writing-up stage and have completed their data collection or equivalent
  • be able to complete their thesis in semester 2, 2009 and be able to submit their thesis for examination by no later than 31 March 2010
  • have their applications supported by their supervisor and Postgraduate Coordinator confirming that the programme outline is realistic and expressing confidence that a submission by 31 March 2010 at the latest will be achieved
  • have their application endorsed by the Head of School with an agreement that 50% of the scholarship will be repaid if the student fails to submit by 31 March 2010

Royal Aeronautical Society Centennial Scholarship Fund

The Royal Aeronautical Society established the Centennial Scholarship Fund in 2003 to celebrate 100 years since the Wright brothers’ first powered flight.

The objective of the scheme is to support the future of aeronautics by making financial awards that will enable or assist individuals or organisations in the fields of aeronautics, astonautics, aerospace and aviation management.

Applications are accepted twice a year and the closing dates for 2008 are March 28 and September 3.

Randwick Rugby Club/St. Hilliers Scholarship

The scholarship is established to support female or male students who are proposing to undertake or are undertaking an undergraduate program offered by the Faculty of the Built Environment or the Australian School of Business at UNSW, AND who are making or will make a significant contribution to Rugby Union.
 
Two scholarships are available and they are each valued at $7,500 for one year only. Previous recipients may reapply.

Australian Defence Force Scholarship in Naval Architecture

This Scholarship was established to encourage and assist high achieving students to undertake the Bachelor of Engineering in Naval Architecture program at the Kensington Campus of UNSW.  This scholarship is valued at $18,000 pa (taxable) for three years, subject to satisfactory progress (credit average).

To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must be students undertaking full-time studies who have completed the first year of the Bachelor of Engineering in Naval Architecture (3710) program within the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW Kensington Campus by the end of 2007.

Each applicant will be assessed on the basis academic merit, leadership qualities and community participation.

Applicants must be Australian citizens and will be assessed on the basis of interview performance, academic merit, aptitude and commitment to the preferred program of study, personal qualities and demonstrated achievements in non-academic ventures and involvement in university and community ventures.

Applications close April 4, 2008.

Nissan Australia Industrial Design Scholarship

This scholarship is established to encourage exceptional students to undertake a Bachelor of Industrial Design program in the Faculty of the Built Environment at UNSW.

The scholarship is valued at $5,000 (tax exempt) per annum tenable for the duration of the Industrial Design Program.
This Scholarship is available to a first year student enrolled at the Faculty of the Built Environment at UNSW who is undertaking a Bachelor of Industrial Design. There are no residency requirements.

The recipient will be selected based on academic merit, commitment to the preferred program of study, personal qualities, including leadership skills, extra-curricular activities and potential to contribute to the wider life of the University.

Social or economic circumstances which may hinder successful transition to, or success at, UNSW may be taken into consideration.
