Hughesy, Kate, & Dave podcasts
Nova 100fm have announced today that they will be using Hypertag technology to bring their Hughesy, Kate, & Dave podcasts to users via their mobile phones. The radio station will be deploying these Hypertags on bus stops in the Melbourne CD this month to tie in with a new segment in their breakfast radio show.
For many people there are two new words here that you might have never heard before – Hypertags, and podcasts. I’ll start of with the Hypertags which will be installed into the Adshel bus shelters by their distributor, AURA. Basically, the Hypertags allow consumers with a Bluetooth or Infrared enabled mobile phone to interact with a small electronic tag embedded into the advertising media – in the case of the bus stops, a poster. When activated the Hypertag can send files to the consumers’ device; be it video, audio, image, animation, calendar reminder, and so on.
The other term is podcasts. Podcasts are like radio shows but instead of receiving them through your stereo you download them to your computer over the internet. There are a wide range of podcasts available on almost any subject from all over the world. Because most are in a major compressed audio format (like MP3), these podcasts can be downloaded to a MP3 player or similar device for listening to while you’re out and about.
The Hughesy, Kate, & Dave podcast has the best bits from each of their morning shows put into the one audio file.
Users will be able to download the podcast for free onto their mobile phone or PDA from the Hypertags, and will also be given a special calendar reminder of the on-air cash giveaway in June. The Hypertag technology is a great concept and in our technological day and age has the potential to change the way we interact with the brands and industries we love. Oh, and also the way we interact with our bus shelters!
