Qantas Frequent Flyer now bigger and better

Qantas said today it would make a decision on the future ownership structure of Qantas Frequent Flyer program in August. The Chief Executive Officer, Mr Geoff Dixon, said the Board would assess options for the program at its next meeting. Mr Dixon said the program had undergone major restructuring and enhancements over the past 12 months.

“Under active consideration for the future of the program is a partial Initial Public Offering (IPO), potentially for completion in 2008.

“The improvements to the program over the past 12 months have reinforced our view of the value of the Qantas Frequent Flyers program as a stand alone business.”

Mr Dixon said should the Board approve the partial IPO, UBS, Citi and Macquarie had been appointed as Joint Lead Managers. Morgan Stanley, who has been working with Qantas on the program since November 2007, would continue to provide financial advice ahead of a potential Offering.

Mr Hickey said at 9am today, members could have taken advantage of the following Any Seat Award options for return Economy flights inclusive of taxes and charges:
- Sydney-Gold Coast in July (Jetstar) from 18,000 points
- Sydney-Christchurch in July (Jetstar) from 57,012 points
- Melbourne-London in November (Qantas) from 223,925 points
- Sydney-Melbourne in July (Qantas) from 26,792 points
